How to fit a rear shock absorber on a NISSAN QASHQAI

Front shock absorber removal

1) KEY TO SIMBOLS

2) Equipment

Special tools TOOL CODE
Spring compressor
Torque wrench
Special tools TOOL CODE

3) To perform the following operations, you will need to:
4) Lift the vehicle on the lift.
5) Remove front wheels.
6) Unscrew the hub nut. ( Figure 1 )

7) Detach the half-shaft from the hub.
 
8) Unlink brake piping from the shock absorber. ( Figure 2 )

9) Unscrew the indicated screws and remove the brake caliper. ( Figure 3 )

10) Attention
11) Link the brake caliper to the car body.
12) Remove the brake disc.

13) Attention
14) Mark component positions.
15) Unlink the wheel speed sensor wiring.
16) Unscrew the indicated nut and disconnect the rod. ( Figure 4 )

17) Unscrew the indicated bolt and detach the spindle from the lower arm. (Figure 5)

18) Unscrew the indicated bolt. ( Figure 6 )

19) Detach the strut from the spindle. ( Figure 7 )
20) Remove the spindle. ( Figure 7 )

21) Unscrew the indicated screws. ( Figure 8 )

22) Remove the shock absorber – spring assembly.
23) Compress the spring. ( Figure 9 )

24) Unscrew the nut and remove the indicated components. ( Figure 10 )

25) Be sure to dispose used components according to the laws. Ask local authorities for further information about recycling.
RE-ASSEMBLY
1) Attention

2) Always replace screws and self-locking nuts.
3) Fit the indicated components and tighten the nut. ( Figure 11 )

4) Decompress the spring. ( Figure 12 )

6) Check correct spring positioning on the mounting plates. ( Figure 13 )

7) Fit the strut.
8) Proceed in reverse order to the dismounting.
9) Attention

10) Check correct positioning when refitting.
11) Fit front wheels.
12) Return the car to the ground.
13) Tighten the indicated bolt. ( Figure 14 )
14) Tighten the indicated screws. ( Figure 14 )

15) Check axle geometries.

Shock absorber – spindle bolt 86,5 Nm
Shock absorber top mounting – body screw 15,5 Nm
Anti-roll bar rod ball joint nut 75 Nm
Shock absorber – lower arm bolt 92,5 Nm
Hub nut 255 Nm
Wheel nut 112,6 Nm
Shock absorber top mounting nut 62 Nm
Brake caliper springs 152,5 Nm
Brake piping retaining nut 18,2 Nm
